Joe Frazier -vs- Jerry Quarry I 1969 | HD Complete Collector's Cut
This Collector’s Cut features the complete fight between Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier and challenger Jerry Quarry. This, the first of their two fights, which took place at Madison Square Garden, New York, on June 23, 1969, and was later recognized as the Ring Magazine Fight of the Year. Parts of the original ABC-TV broadcast were lost by the network. This was not unusual at the time. Video tapes, expensive at the time, were often recycled for later broadcasts. Some shows were archived and have since been preserved, but other programs, perceived as less important, were discarded. However, ABC-TV was not alone in filming the fight. The venue, Madison Square Garden, routinely shot films of major fights from a single in-house camera. The events were captured from just one angle, but the perspective and the quality were often very good. There was also a documentary film crew on hand. The filmmakers used multiple cameras to capture the fight, including ringside action and footage of the fighters and corner men between rounds. A more complete copy of the ABC broadcast came into circulation some years ago. The source of the tape is somewhat mysterious, as VHS or BETA recorders were not available until the 1970s. In any case, the recording is of marginal quality but still very watchable. Accessing all the available footage, I re-cut and reassembled the entire event, along with bonus material. Enjoy this classic fight.

Back in the days before VHS I had a tape recorder and would record the audio portion of fight broadcasts. I recently unearthed a box of reels and transferred them to digital. I would also scour the radio dial on the night of a giv...

You have the count of 20 to get back in the ring unassisted in modern boxing rules.Dempsey certainly beat the time ether way.
I think Terry would have enjoyed a Super Middleweight division, which was still some years away from happening. Pastrano looks significantly bigger than Downes and I like his boxing style which still looks relatively modern. I was just two months old when this fight took place. ❤
37 years old in 1915, is like a modern day 67 💯
"The age of the White Hope" is CRAZY
Firpo was considered huge at 6' 2", but Muhammad Ali and George Foreman were both taller and heavier

TROLL ALERT😮😮😮. *WARNING*. Nearly all Rocky threads and posts are trolled and attacked by the same racist afrocintric troll who uses many different user names to attack Rocky's legacy. He has entire conversations with himself using different user names to sound convincing in his lies to attack Rocky's legacy... He steals user names from people who have educated, exposed and embarrassed him. Everything he says are lies and complete nonsense that's actually hilarious in some cases.😅😅😅😅 He is listed as alien observer here.🎉 😂 ALL THESE CLOWNS BELOW ARE THE SAME PERSON. What's amazing is he believes people believe his radical nonsense over the facts in the videos and documentaries. Rocky beat 49 PRO OPPONENTS and destroyed 4 all time greats. 3 of these all time greats were at the top of the careers and had just won championships for the first time in there lives. He retired 13 pro HEAVYWEIGHTs including one standing 6'5 and 254 lbs. The US testing company tested his punching power at almost 1,000 foot lbs. Same power as a 44 magnum and he averaged over 80 power shots per round and sometimes over 100 in round 15. His style absolutely smothered his opponents reach and jab making them obsolete. Everyone who saw Rocky fight said he was the hardest puncher ever including Joe Louis, Walcott,Moore,Bert sugar, don Turner who trained evander HOLYFIELD and the Klitschkos, jack Dempsey ,Floyd Patterson ect and too many more to mention...🎉

It's pretty wild how much abuse rocky took, but how clearly he speaks.
Sounds like the rock had a similar training mindset to marvelous marvin.
Nobody alive has seen this fight. You brought us right back to the day of the fight watching history in real time. It was amazing. What a great show.
Agree with a previous comment. More holding than punching back then. Langford was bloody good though.
I miss Smokin' Joe!!!
Great reconstruction, the most footage I've ever seen of the first Dempsey-Tunney bout.. Especially interesting is the early action, notably Round 4's detail of Dempsey's best attempts to catch Gene, one driving him partially over the top rope, then later staggering into the ropes on the other side (though that might have been a slip on the (wet?) ring) as Dempsey wrestled him.
Love these old fight films.
この試合を観ることが出来るとは!素晴らしいの一言です。
The Johnson fans never mention this one lol
45 runden wie fiel Minuten dann???
This is the best presentation of this fight that I've ever see. Thank you very much!
He’s faster than me even in slow motion
At 63 he’s fantastic for any era .. would fancy my chances that’s for sure
Tunney looks much more polished than Corbett here. It’s how sports evolve. New techniques. New training methods. New equipment. The newbies learn from the oldies.
What a great fight between Ouarry & Frazier when fighters fought with pride.Legends of the Ring RIP
Why my boy sounds like a young donald trump
extraordinaria pelea.creo que es la mejor de toda la historia del boxeo de pesos pesados.Firpo nos muy bien a los argentos.demostrandos garra y corazon guerrero.
The Dempsey house/museum in Manassa is a fun excursion. We live about an hour away, and pass through when going to LaJara or heading south to Antonito or western New Mexico. It's not always open, but we slow down to see if it is open when we drive through on 142.
Can you find Frazier vs bonavena 2
Excellent
One of the best boxing interviews I've ever heard 👍🏾
smart man
👍👍👍
The host was still racist and very anti Black. Just a reminder of where a lot of his comments came from. When Rocky started every single race BUT BLACK AMERICANS had a fair share and were allowed to fight for title shots. Because of this anti Black practice in the sport. It would take years before Black Americans would eventually dominate the sport finally being given opportunities in it. Prior to that white boys, MEXICANS, Filipinos, you name it could all fight and money. White boys, like Rocky, obviously made the most money. Once Black Americans were able to fight for belts and big fights weren’t rigged against them. They started winning. As the advent of television occurred simultaneously to them dominating the sport: money poured into the sport and went mostly to Black American fighters (besides the businessmen). Racists were pissed because they had to watch a group of people that didn’t even have the same rights as them dominate their favorites fighters in the ring & make more money then they themselves could ever hope to make. (A modern equivalent is Floyd Mayweather being hated by racists) By the time this interview came out Boxing and baseball were the biggest sports in America. Baseball was still heavily racist and a good ole boy sport where primarily *whites and hispanics* were treated fairly and Black Americans were not. By the time this recording released Black Americans were the face of one (of two) largest sports in the country that had a global appeal. And were making all the money. And finally were able to DICTATE when and where fights happened. The same way the racists favorite fighters had been doing without criticism. (A modern equivalent is how Oscar and canelo got to pick and choose opponents. Yet Devin Haney requested PED testing and PROPER WEIGH-IN for a title he earned by fighting everybody who would fight him: and the racists to date mock him and despise him. Same treatment Floyd got after over a decade of earning his status when he requested that manny take PED testing.) The incidents of the past still besmirch the sport today however there’s a new host of issues given society has largely moved on from television as did the sport of boxing. As well as Boxing has fallen into the crevice of becoming a niche sport.

This has almost nothing to do with modern boxing, as both of these guys would be club fighters at best. In 1915, the real fighting was going on about 4000 miles away
En cualquiet otro pais esta pelea le daban a Firpo.Rival fuera del ring lo devuelven y luego de un siglo el referi cuenta..je
What a truly great man.
There is no boxer (white)!that I've seen with real skills!( After watching Muhammad Ali,@ work) They all seem like "CLUB FIGHTERS"!
Era before the neutral corner!!!
Phainting Phil Scott. What a Phraud. 😅
Boxing is only slightly more real than WWE that’s why I never really got into boxing or took it that seriously.
Amazing account about this legendary fight. As an argentinean fan of boxing Im really tankfull to this wonderful piece of analysis on this controversial encounter.
And the next day, dies in a plane crash 🤔
Everyone talking about how great he was amd we already knew that but listen to him! He's saying in the 50-early 60s that the game is being ruined by money and cherry picking!!!😢😮 Wow if only hed seen what happened later... 😢
Its like they cut put all rhe major blows from the fight just to make the woke audiences from one hundred years later not be offended by the trigger warning violence 😂
Carl Weingarten; cheers to you! The BEST visual presentation of this fight I have ever seen. I've always been annoyed by missing frames in major fight films, especially this one, and imagined they burned when old collectors "freeze framed" crucial moments for a closer look (as I once did to my 8mm collections years ago!) You capture the first Dempsey knockdown perfectly (not a stumble!) and the Masterpiece is the timing analysis of Dempsey through the ropes. I worried that it was edited--even documentaries perpetuate the 14 second or so claim while showing 5 seconds of action. You have apparently settled it--this is Antonioni's Blow-Up-meets Jimmy Jacobs. I should have epected that, recalling the amazing job you did with Battling Siki-Georges Carpentier film!
You're most welcome, my friend. Thank you.
Isn’t this the same guy that got the living shit kicked out of him by Jack Dempsey 😊
A Quick Dempsey Story Post by APerno » 29 Aug 2016 . Back in the late seventies, in New York City, the taxi cabs did not yet have auto-locks on them, and it was a common sting for teenage gang-members to spot a taxi caught in traffic and jump the passenger in the back seat - they would swing open both back doors and jump the passenger from both sides - one would grab the passenger while the other would rip at his clothes until he found the wallet, and then they would make their escape. One day a couple of thugs saw such an opportunity, and old man just sitting waiting to be robbed - they jumped the car - but the old man turned out to be a seventy-something year old Jack Dempsey. When the first kid reached for him, Dempsey nailed the kid with a right hand, knocking the kid on his butt, then Dempsey turned and nailed the other kid with his left. Dempsey jumped from the car, grabbed the one kid by the collar and threw him up onto the hood of the taxi and held him there until the police arrived. It must have been a funny scene in the lock-up that night when the gang banger had to explain to his compatriots that he got his butt kicked by a seventy-something year old man.
Excellent for real, so well done.
Tks for this piece history. By the way, both would be beaten bad by any average pro in 2025, boxing evolution is just amazing
Thanks for taking time to rd-edit this classic fight. My father was an avid boxing fan and ex boxer. I spent hours listening to him telling stories of great fights and fighters of these times. I remember him sitting close to our radio listening to fights broadcast from the USA before we had a tv, and then getting up out of bed with him in the early hours of the morning to watch heavyweight championship fights once we had a tv, he would have loved to see this piece of boxing history, thanks again.
